PRISON EDUCATION PROGRAM
The Prison Education Program (PEP) at Kellogg Community College is a higher-education program designed to assist incarcerated students with identifying and achieving their educational goals. PEP offers incarcerated students an opportunity to earn college credits toward an Associate of Applied Science in Business Management degree and opportunities to earn certificates in both Business Management and Retail Management.
Our classes are small, taught face-to-face by part- and full-time KCC professors, and transfer seamlessly to all colleges and universities participating in the Michigan Transfer Agreement.
In order to qualify for the program, prospective students must meet the following requirements:
- GED completion, earned high school diploma, and/or prior college credit
- MDOC Security Level I or II
- Six months Class 1 Misconduct Free
- Agreement to enroll in assigned courses
Participation in KCC’s Prison Education Program is strictly a privilege granted in partnership between the MDOC and Kellogg Community College. Acceptance into the program is based on the eligibility requirements mentioned above. Students in KCC’s PEP program are expected to be role models and demonstrate cognitive and behavioral characteristics that allow for the success of all students.
MDOC reserves the right to remove students from the program for any reason, but more specifically if a student receives a Class 1 Misconduct, is a management problem and/or has Core Programming needs that must be fulfilled. In case of removal from the program due to misconduct, tuition and fees are not refundable.
