PILLAR IV: ENSURE LEARNING
The fourth pillar of Guided Pathways is about ensuring student learning through intentional assessment practices.
KCC does this by offering clear learning outcomes for students at both the course and program level. Every KCC graduate, for example, must meet the Bruin Standard, a set of requirements demonstrating attainment of specifically defined General Education outcomes.
As a result of completing the Bruin Standard:
- Graduates will demonstrate effective communication appropriate to audience and purpose.
- Graduates will analyze arguments and evaluate evidence, draw conclusions, make decisions and solve problems from a variety of perspectives.
- Graduates will engage in explorations of civic, intercultural, and ethical issues, making connections between their knowledge, choices and actions.
Program-level learning outcomes are aligned with relevant workforce readiness standards for General Education goals and for most graduates including high-impact learning experiences including a required Service-Learning endorsement.
