PERFORMING ARTS

Kellogg Community College offers dozens of performing arts opportunities for students every academic year in the areas of music and theatre. For more information about performing arts opportunities at KCC, contact the Arts and Communication offices at 269-965-4126.

Music

KCC’s Arts and Communication Department offers a robust Music Program including an Associate of Arts degree with a Music concentration and certificates in Music Enrichment and Sacred Music. Additional music opportunities for students and community members offered through the College include individualized voice and instrument lessons, master classes, student recitals, an annual Opera Workshop and other music initiatives, including youth performance camps.

The College also host three residential choirs, including the Branch County Community Chorus, the Concentus Vocal Ensemble and the Kellogg Singers, which perform together as the KCC Choral Union. In addition to performing regularly in its home state of Michigan, the Choral Union has performed nationally at major venues in Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Massachusetts, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, and performed international concert tours of Ireland and Italy in 2012 and 2014, respectively.

Additionally, all KCC students have the opportunity to take private instrumental lessons, as well as lessons in voice and conducting.

Theatre

Kellogg Community College offers two mainstage theatre productions every academic year, including a drama or comedy each fall and a musical each spring. The production season offers opportunities for KCC students and community members alike to gain practical and artistic experience both onstage and backstage. The College holds open auditions for each production and welcomes anyone interested in donating their time and energy in the areas of set construction, stage lighting, stage management, costuming and makeup.

KCC theatre productions are held primarily in the College’s 300-plus-seat Binda Performing Arts Center theater on campus at 450 North Ave. in Battle Creek, which also serves as a classroom for KCC Theatre courses on topics including acting, children’s theatre, film production, film and video studies, stagecraft and theatre appreciation. Theatre productions and classes are also held in the auditorium of the Davidson Visual and Performing Arts Center, which offers seating for more than 100 and houses several smaller-scale productions each semester.

KCC students also have the opportunity to join the Encore Theatre Company, a student-led theatre company that produces two mainstage “Mich-Mash” theatre productions each semester on campus.
