Leave

Kellogg Community College Administrative, Faculty, Maintenance and Support Staff employees earn a combination of leaves to support their need to be away from work for illness, caring for personal business and to just relax. Below are the processes to follow for each group.

Please refer to each groups’ contract and/or the Kellogg Community College Policy Manual for accrual and other leave information or contact Human Resources at hr@kellogg.edu or 269-565-2074 for details.

Family and Medical Leave Policy

Kellogg Community College fully supports the federal Family and Medical Leave Act program. We work closely with employees requiring extended leaves to care for themselves or family members. Any employee who believes they will be absent five or more days in a 12-week period should contact Human Resources as soon as possible.

Tuition Reimbursement

All regular employees of Kellogg Community College taking courses at the College are entitled to a waiver of most KCC tuition when registered for regularly scheduled offerings. Present spouses and dependent children, as defined by the Internal Revenue Service, are entitled to the same tuition waiver as regular employees. Not included in the assistance provisions are application fees for admissions, books and supplies, lab fees and activity fees. Employees will become eligible for this benefit for any class that starts subsequent to the employee’s hire date.

Full-time administrative staff are also eligible for reimbursement for tuition, fees and books for coursework taken at an accredited university or college. Reimbursement is limited to two approved classes per semester (fall and spring) and one approved class during the summer. Because of the wide variance in tuition costs, a cap for tuition per credit hour is determined each fiscal year.

Please contact Human Resources at hr@kellogg.edu or 269-565-2074 for more information.

Retirement Plans & Investment

Full-time, regular faculty and full-time administrators have a choice between the Michigan Public School Employees Retirement System (MPSERS) and the College’s TIAA (Teachers Insurance Annuity Association) optional retirement program (ORP). Both plans require an employee tax-deferred payroll contribution.

All other employees, except student employees, participate in MPSERS.

MPSERS

Kellogg Community College participates with MPSERS. Employees who participate in MPSERS make a mandatory employee contribution toward their retirement. This pre-tax contribution is deducted each payday from the employee’s paycheck. The amount of the pre-tax contribution depends on each employee’s plan structure with MPSERS.

TIAA

TIAA ORP employee contribution is 4% of the employee’s gross wages. KCC contributes 10.5% of the employee’s gross wages to the employee’s account.

Additional Investment Opportunities – 403(b)

This voluntary retirement investment program is also managed by TIAA. All employees, except student employees, are eligible to participate in this 403(b) plan. Similar to a 401(k), this program provides employees an opportunity for tax-deferred contributions of their choosing. This investment program is optional and separate from the College – provided retirement programs.

Please contact Human Resources at hr@kellogg.edu or 269-565-2074 for more information.
