The Kellogg Community College Jazz Band will present a Cinco de Mayo concert May 6 on campus in Battle Creek.

The concert, titled “Swingo de Mayo!” will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 6, at the Binda Performing Arts Center, at 450 North Ave. in Battle Creek.

The event is free and open to the public, though a freewill offering will be collected to support future music programming and initiatives at the College, including a planned concert tour of Austria in 2025.

> “The Song of the Volga Boatmen,” by Bill Finegan
> “Aventuras!” by Paul Baker
> “The Dance of Denial,” by Michael Philip Mossman
> “Java Samba,” by Steve Parsons
> “Toro de Laton,” by Lee Brazie

“Lucrecia Mac Evil,” by David Clayton-Thomas and Roger Holmes

Membership in the KCC Jazz Band is open to students and community members alike. The group offers members the opportunity to develop performance skills in contemporary and traditional jazz music through performances on campus and off, including music from all areas of jazz and various rock idioms.

About the Director

KCC Jazz Band Director Eric Campbell is a Battle Creek native with a long musical history across the state of Michigan. Campbell is a freelance trumpet performer with decades of experience in all genres of trumpet idioms, including lead trumpet (big band), chamber music, British brass band, Dixieland and rock ‘n’ roll.

Campbell is president of the Cereal City Concert Band and former president of the award-winning Motor City Brass Band. Dozens of his jazz arrangements and compositions have been featured in area jazz festivals and he continues to add new musical experiences to his resume.
