CENTER FOR STUDENT SUCCESS PROGRAMS

The Center for Student Success at Kellogg Community College administers two programs for student assistance: the Special Populations Program (Perkins) and the Student Support Services Program (TRIO). Read below for information about program eligibility and available services.

 

Special Populations Program (Perkins)

The Special Populations Program is partially funded by the Federal Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Applied Technology Act. The Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity provides oversight of the program’s administration. In order to apply for the program, students must first complete the CSS Specialized Program Intake Form.

Eligibility

Students must be enrolled in an approved occupational program and meet one of the following requirements:

  • Individuals with disabilities
  • Economically disadvantaged
  • Youth who are in, or have aged out of, foster care
  • Individuals preparing for nontraditional fields: A person who desires to be trained in a career that is not traditionally chosen for his/her gender
  • Single parents (including single pregnant women; including low-income youths and adults)
  • Out of the workforce
  • English as a second language
  • Homeless Individual

  • Career, academic and personal counseling
  • Peer mentors
  • Professional academic assistance
  • Peer tutoring
  • Disability services
  • Limited financial assistance

Student Support Services Program (TRIO)

The Student Support Services Program provides advising and academic support to students pursuing a transfer degree program and meeting federal eligibility criteria. Limited funding for financial assistance may also be available to qualified program participants. In order to apply, students must first complete the CSS Specialized Program Intake Form.

Eligibility

  • Academic need

One or more of the following:

  • First-generation college student
  • Low income
  • Disability

Available Services

  • Career, academic, disability and personal counseling
  • Peer mentoring
  • Transfer services and assistance
  • Academic assistance
  • Peer tutoring
